At this point in time, all the kids are back in school. What does this mean for adults? It’s time to take a break from summer break. Believe it or not now is the best time to travel whether you have kids or not. Flights are empty, air fare is low, hotel prices drop during the low season; this is the time to vacation crowd-free and for the low low.
If you live in Miami, then you know that the Caribbean islands are just a hop and a skip away. Jamaica is one of my favorite islands to visit. It’s an hour and a half away and there’s just so much to do, see, and visit.
First let’s talk hotels! I’ve been to Jamaica quite a few times and my number one recommendation remains the Luxury Grand Bahia Principe in Runaway Bay, Jamaica. This resort is all inclusive, ADULT ONLY (best part about it lol), and about 1 hour and 15 minutes away from the airport in Montego Bay. But not to worry, the hotel provides free transportation to and from the airport on a nice comfortable big bus. The drivers are super nice and will point out the different parishes and landmarks along the way, which to me is just an added bonus- free tour! The hotel is simply gorgeous from the lobby to the pools to the private beach to the rooms, but I’ll let you see that for yourself in a quick video.
The food is to die for! Let’s start with the breakfast buffet. Not only is the spread amazing from the array of fruits to the wide variety of breads and pastries. It includes an omelette station, a juice and smoothie station, and most importantly a Jamaican station where you can get a taste of what the locals call breakfast: ackee and salt fish, fried and boiled dumplings, jerk and curried goat, chicken, and pork- absolutely delicious and def worth trying! And one last thing, unlimited mimosas and bloody Mary’s 😋😋😋
While the buffet is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, you can also choose to make dinner reservations at any of the six restaurants on the property, all included in your package! My top three picks are the Brazilian steakhouse, the Italian restaurant, and the super fancy French restaurant. Aside from that, you can order room service free of charge, however I would not recommend it: the food options are extremely limited, the service is super slow, and when it finally gets delivered it’s really not all that. While it is a good option to have, I would not waste my time with it.
Every room comes with a butler if you so choose to utilize him. The butler is definitely a nice to touch to an already amazing experience. But let’s be real most people visit all inclusive hotels thinking food and drinks. Aside from a full stocked in-room fridge, the number one thing I look for when choosing an all inclusive resort is top shelf liquor. To all my Hennessy lovers, this one’s for you 😉 – all the Hennessy you can drink at no additional cost!
As far as excursions go, the hotel is extremely accommodating. The two excursions I chose to do were snorkeling and Dunn’s River- all for $98 transportation, food, and drinks included. Snorkeling was awesome, a catamaran takes you out into the sea, and on the way back to the dock, unlimited drinks- but of course!
My favorite, however, was climbing Dunn’s River falls. Matter of fact I loved it so much that I did it twice during my 5 day stay. The first time you climb, I definitely recommend using a tour guide- it’s free of charge and a necessity if you’ve never done it before. The second time I went, I was confident enough to do it alone with no guide. Here are some pics to give you a glimpse at how breathtaking it truly is.
Guys, I enjoyed this vacation so much I even ended up extending one more night because I so was not ready to leave! When booking your stay, I think the best thing to do is bypass the travel agencies (i.e. booking.com and expedia) and just go directly to the hotel’s website. And like I said earlier, September-October are considered low traveling seasons; the best and cheapest times to take that vacation you didn’t get to go on over the summer.
I hope y’all enjoy it and fall in love with Jamaica as much as I have! Drop some comments and let us know how your trip goes, and as always don’t forget to tag us in your gorgeous pics on Instagram @boughetto_fab.
